The “Oil Change Required”, “Change Engine Oil Soon”, or “Oil Life 0%” message on your Ford F-150 trucks is easy to clear yourself in under 30 seconds — no scan tool needed. The procedure varies slightly by generation. Here are the exact, tested methods that work on every F-150 from 2009 to the current 2025 models.

2021–2025 F-150 (15th Generation – 12" or 8" Sync Screen)

Works on all engines (3.3 V6, 2.7/3.5 EcoBoost, 5.0 V8, 3.5 PowerBoost Hybrid, Lightning).

1. Close the door and buckle the seatbelt (some trucks require this).

2. Press the START button without touching the brake pedal (ignition ON, engine OFF).

3. Using the steering wheel arrows (◄ ►), go to SettingsVehicleOil Life Reset.

4. Press and hold the OK button on the steering wheel for 3–5 seconds.

5. Message “Hold OK to Reset Oil Life” appears → keep holding OK.

6. Oil Life resets to 100% and the warning disappears.

Alternative quick method (works even if the menu is hidden):

- Go to the Truck Info or Information tab on the instrument cluster.

- Scroll to Oil Life and hold OK until it resets.

2015–2020 F-150 (14th Generation)

Method A – With physical buttons on the dash (left of steering wheel):

1. Turn ignition ON (engine OFF).

2. Press the **SETUP button repeatedly until the display shows “OIL LIFE XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW”.

3. Press and hold the RESET button for 3–5 seconds.

4. Display shows “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%”.

Method B – Steering wheel controls only (later 2018–2020 models):

Same as 2021–2025: Settings → Vehicle → Oil Life Reset → hold OK.

2009–2014 F-150 (13th Generation)

Classic “brake + gas pedal” trick that still works perfectly:

1. Make sure ignition is completely OFF.

2. Press and hold both the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor.

3. While keeping both pedals pressed, turn ignition ON (press START button without brake, or turn key to RUN).

4. Continue holding both pedals for 15–25 seconds.

5. The message center will show “SERVICE: OIL RESET IN PROC” → then “SERVICE: OIL RESET COMPLETE”.

6. Release pedals — oil life is now 100%.

Bonus Tips & Common Issues

- If the message returns immediately, you probably didn’t hold long enough or the ignition wasn’t fully OFF first.

- On some 2023–2025 trucks with the newest software, the menu may be under SettingsVehicle MaintenanceOil Life.

- The reset works the same on F-150 Lightning (electric) — it resets the general service interval instead of oil.

- Always reset only after actually changing the oil and filter.

That’s it — no dealer visit or FORScan required. Takes less than half a minute once you know the steps!
