How to Reset the Maintenance Minder / Oil Life on Any Honda & Acura (All Models & Generations)

Honda’s Maintenance Minder system (wrench icon + A1/B1/5 codes or oil life percentage) is used on every Honda and Acura sold worldwide since the mid-2000s — Civic, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, HR-V, Ridgeline, Passport, Fit/Jazz, Insight, Clarity, Element, Prelude, S2000, NSX, and all Acura TLX/MDX/RDX/ILX/NSX/ZDX models.
The reset procedure is virtually identical across the entire range. Below are the exact methods grouped by dashboard type.
Most Common Method – Models with Steering Wheel Controls & Multi-Information Display
(Civic 8th gen → current, Accord 8th gen → current, CR-V 3rd gen → current, Pilot, Odyssey, HR-V, Ridgeline, Passport, all new models)
1. Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button twice without brake pedal on keyless models, or turn key to position II).
2. Use the ◄ / ► arrows on the steering wheel to cycle through the display until Engine Oil Life percentage appears.
3. Press and hold the same ◄ / ► knob (Select/Reset stem) for more than 10 seconds.
4. The oil life will flash → keep holding until it resets to 100 % and the wrench icon disappears.
Alternative menu path on newer models:
Home → Vehicle Settings → Maintenance Info → Reset → All Due Items (or Oil Life).
Newer Full-Color Driver Display Models
(11th-gen Civic, 11th-gen Accord, current CR-V/HR-V/Pilot/Odyssey, Acura TLX/MDX etc.)
1. Ignition ON (engine OFF).
2. Use the left steering wheel buttons to enter the Maintenance tab (wrench symbol).
3. Scroll to Oil Life or the specific service item.
4. Press and hold the scroll wheel / ENTER button until the reset confirmation appears → select Reset.
Older Models without Steering Wheel Buttons
(2005–2011 Civic, Accord 2003–2007, CR-V 2005–2011, Element, Fit 1st–2nd gen, older Pilot/Odyssey)
1. Turn ignition completely OFF.
2. Press and hold the Select/Reset button (the black knob sticking out of the instrument cluster).
3. While holding the button, turn ignition to ON (do not start the engine).
4. Continue holding for 10–15 seconds until the oil life flashes and resets to 100 %.
Honda Type R, NSX, S2000 & Acura Performance Models
Exactly the same as the main method above — no special procedure required.
Electric & Hybrid Models
(Honda e, Prologue, Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid, Clarity, Acura NSX Hybrid, ZDX etc.)
The Maintenance Minder still exists for brake fluid, filters, rotation, etc.:
1. Ignition ON.
2. Go to the Maintenance menu with steering wheel controls or touchscreen.
3. Select the item → Reset (or “Reset All Due Items”).
Touchscreen Method (available on most 2018+ models)
Center infotainment screen → Home → Settings → Vehicle → Maintenance Minder → Reset → Confirm.
Important Notes
- Always perform the actual service first — resetting early will shift future reminders incorrectly.
- If the wrench stays after reset, a sub-code (e.g., 3, 5, 6) is still pending — choose “Reset All Due Items”.
- Works identically on US, European, JDM, Canadian, and Australian vehicles.
- No scan tool or dealer visit required — takes 10–15 seconds once you know the steps.
This procedure works on literally every gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric Honda and Acura with the Maintenance Minder system — from a 2006 Civic to the newest models on sale today.
